Are you feeling disconnected from what you used to love?
Does your work reflect your intention?
Are your photographs missing the opportunity for others to not only see but feel what you're communicating?
Are you ready to create imagery that speaks from your knowing?
There are a few things I should share with you first...
For about 35 years, I have been a commercial photographer with clients all over the world. I was successful and sought after for my work...but I started to lose my inspiration for creating imagery. It all became "a job" and my heart just wasn't in it. It was so depressing that I didn't even want to create personal work.
The thing that used to fill my heart and soul was now a burden.
What used to be exciting now just felt tedious and heavy and draining.
And even worse, I couldn't get back to the good things about photography...
I felt like with each job I was spiraling down a dark hole.
Sound familiar?
One day I had to get honest and admit the truth to myself...
I had lost my connection to photography or maybe I never nurtured it in the first place.
Even if I had a little sparkle of inspiration - it just died quickly because I had no idea where to start from to rebuild my connection.
Burn Out had sucked the life out of the very thing that had given me joy and purpose!I
One day I woke up and decided, "I'm done! I've had enough of this feeling."
I put my camera aside and realized my answers weren't inside my equipment. I realized the solution was in ME. It was the beginning of a continuing journey of discovering the reason I create photographs, revealing the real reasons why I felt burned out, and creating a life that won't let burnout creep back in.
I remembered that photography was my gift (I'd even lost my recognition of that basic truth about myself), so I went all in -- and I mean ALL IN!
I started to research all over the place, I dug deep into what mattered to me; and, long story short, I finally found that I got burned out and didn't even like my own imagery because I hadn't really understood why I created it.
On my own journey of discovery, I learned how to create photographs with intention and I noticed some signposts along the path that step-by-step revealed why I was passionate about photography and why I really created imagery.
As I started to feel the life come back into my work and I talked with other photographers, I discovered that many of them felt the same way too. As we talked and I shared the transformation I was experiencing, I noticed our conversations were having an effect on them too. They started reconnecting with their passion for imagery too.
If you've gotten this far, I'm sure you can identify with some of these feelings too!
You probably feel a bit disjointed about your work.
You might doubt your abilities.
You might dread another photography job.
You might want to just give it up.
Well, I have some GREAT news...
You can do this too!
At first, it was conversations at random times with friends who were photographers or who were eager to learn photography.
Then it was groups asking me to talk about the transformation I was experiencing.
That evolved into classes I began teaching at the local museum and for various photographers' groups.
At each gathering, it became apparent that a lot of people were walking through this experience. I loved working with them and witnessing their experiences of their own reconnection with their art, mentoring them on how to find ways to bring their intention forward in their imagery, and even helping them reshape their understanding of how to use the tools they have (no matter how basic) to work for them to communicate what their inspiration was.
But...it was also overwhelming...
...although not for the reason you're thinking!
I'd be happy to be on the road every day sharing what I've learned and helping people navigate their own paths but that would be limiting. We also experienced a pandemic that has reshaped everything about our lives. But there is a silver lining - we've learned to work together virtually.
So rather than meet up with people for an evening here and there and then scribble notes on napkins and envelopes as we chat, I've created a way to help you -- wherever you are, anywhere in the world, whenever it fits in YOUR schedule to regain what you've lost or grab hold of it firmly before you've had the chance to lose it...

IntroductionS: the course & Your Instructor
This is a quick introduction to the course work, who it's for, a discussion of what intentional imagery is, and how you can benefit from this work.
The Camera and its functions
Photography is about light and so is your path through life! We'll start with a discussion of how light travels through the camera and its function in creating a balanced exposure.
Our Functions
Now that we understand how light works within the camera and how we can create a balanced exposure, we'll look at creating balance within ourselves as photographers.
The camera functions and the image
Building on our understanding of a balanced exposure, this module looks at how to use that as we create an image. Your camera has many functions that serve as tools for your creative expression, you'll learn about which ones to use when and why you might want to set one as a priority.
Our functions and their affects on us
This Module is about our functions; just like your camera's functions, you'll learn when you might want to set one of them as priority.
The Relationships of the Functions
Now that we are familiar with both the functions of our selves and the camera, we learn how they relate to each other. We'll discuss how we can use them working with our camera and how we can use them within ourselves.
Hearing the Messages
We've defined our basic toolkit so it's time to take the next step: learning to listen/see/be inspired. In this module, we learn about developing our awareness, tools to help us open up our connection to spirit, and defining what "hearing the message" means to you. This is the beginning of being guided by your intuition to create imagery that is a messenger of your true intent.
The Word map and its use
I have a gift for you! As I was developing my own tools for transforming my work, I was on a retreat in Teotihuacan, Mexico - "the place where man becomes God." In my quiet time, I was shown how to use the beautiful symbol of Teo as a Word Map. I'm happy to share it with you. It's a tool to guide us through the creation process and help us focus on the reasons why we create the imagery we do.
Beyond the Mechanics / Seeing the IMage
It's time to turbocharge our inspiration! Now we delve into composition and other design concepts that are added resources for creating imagery with power.
The course will be updated continually as new information is created. and you will always have access to the information to review over and over, refreshing your memory and building a deeper connection to it.
I would love to help you grow as an individual and photographer.
I offer several different mentorship programs to help you on your path.
This process does not require cool equipment or a special place to practice.
It happens within yourself.
The learning happens as we listen to the world around us.
There are several files to download and use in your journey of creating balance within yourself and your photography.
Testimonials
Photographer, Educator, and Guide
Hey, I'm David Monroe. I've been a professional photographer for 40 years; but, I began to realize as I slowed down to listen to my spirit, it communicated with me about my connection to the world around me. These distinct messages began weaving themselves into my imagery creating a journey through Portals of Intention.
My work offers the viewer a visual and spiritual opening...a portal to be transported into and touched by the messages I receive; an opportunity for the viewer to be flooded by the spirit of intention.
My classes and retreats offer artists the opportunity to find their own deeper connection to authentic creation and communication into the realm of the subtle, the unseen, and the emotionally resonant in their imagery.
